How to compare U.S. prototyping shops

A prototype award fails when a learning part, a fit-check, and a bridge-to-production tool are treated as the same quote. Name what the part has to prove, then compare the cell — print, CNC, mold, or electronics.

Selection rules

  1. Name the learning objective. “Prototype” is not a process.
  2. Ask which process will make the production part. The prototype cell should not invent a route the factory cannot run.
  3. Separate a same-day FDM fixture from a machined first article and from a soft-tool molding shot.
  4. Require the same revision, material substitute rules, and inspection from every shortlisted shop.
